Great Expectations
Jesus is the son of God. Verse 11 tells us that even evil spirits did recognize Him. The teachers of the law as well as the Pharisees did not. What a shame if we won’t. But I remember what Jesus had said, His sheep knows Him (John 10:14).
Jesus calls. He calls those He wanted. And they came to Him. It is God who chooses. Whom to call and when is also His prerogative. And those He calls respond – they come to Him.
Again in John 10:47, Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” There are people, in fact “many” who are attracted to God for what they heard about Him – but there are those who come to Him because they heard His call. They were those whom He predestined (Rom 8:30). They were those appointed to eternal life (Acts 13:48). They “know” Jesus as the Son of God. He calls them according to His purpose. He teaches them and sends them out with power and authority to be His witness unto all the world.
